Professor Dean Whittington is a seasoned martial artist with a remarkable 28-year journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, culminating in the prestigious award of a 3rd-degree Black Belt in September 2022 by renowned masters John Will and Rigan Machado. Additionally, he holds the distinction of a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Kickboxing, a discipline to which he has dedicated an equally impressive period of training.


In 2014, Professor Whittington founded Empty Jacket Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a testament to his commitment to sharing the wealth of knowledge and skills acquired over the years. His coaching philosophy revolves around mutual respect, understanding, and gratitude, creating a positive and safe environment where students can thrive. Witnessing his students develop and succeed on the mat is the ultimate reward for him, emphasizing personal growth alongside technical proficiency.


As a coach, Dean is not only dedicated to his students but also to his own continuous improvement. Actively staying abreast of the latest trends and techniques, he focuses on refining his skills, incorporating cutting-edge drills, and exploring various aspects of technique variations.
